in the meantime，指在等一件事的這段時間裡。亨伯特說先把唱片寄來，in the meantime 可以先買新的，就是「在那之前，先這樣」。
Nothing will ever be all right。ever 加強語氣，all right 是「沒事、好起來」。洛麗塔用這句把亨伯特的安慰頂回去，意思是「你說會好，可再也不可能了」。
makes you think。make 在這裡是「使、讓」，makes you think 就是「讓你產生某種念頭」。亨伯特問 whatever makes you think that would happen，就是「你怎麼會覺得自己會被送進去」。
