下一章 · 24have a nerve膽子真大這場戲：硬拽回家逼問下午去向是「兩性常識、性知識」的委婉說法，正式場合常用，比直接說 sex 含蓄。心理醫生問 has anybody instructed Lolita in the facts of life，就是「有沒有人給洛麗塔講過這些」。
get fed up with。fed up 是「吃撐了、受夠了」，加上 with 接物件。記錄裡說她看書看一會兒就 gets fed up with it，就是「看一會兒就煩了」。
cast our minds back。cast 是「投、拋」，把心思往回拋就是「回想過去」。曾普說 But if we cast our minds back，想拉亨伯特一起回憶當年，其實是在套近乎。
refuse to cooperate，名詞形式是 refusing to cooperate。曾普問 Do I take it that you are refusing to cooperate，就是「我是不是可以理解為您拒絕配合」，語氣像在施壓。
repression of the libido。libido 指性本能、慾望，repression 是壓制、壓抑。曾普用這種心理學術語，說洛麗塔 suffering from acute repression of the libido，顯得很專業，其實更像在給調查詢理由。
