下一章 · 16once and for all一勞永逸這場戲：樓下有動靜硬要人去看「對……持懷疑態度」，比 doubt 更書面也更常用來講態度。臺詞裡 I've always been skeptical about ESP 就是「我一直對超感官知覺持懷疑態度」。
watch out for，比如 watch out for him 就是「當心他」。它比 be careful 更針對具體的人或危險，語氣像提醒。
是「和某人一起吃飯」，偏客氣、正式的邀請說法。臺詞裡 will you come and take dinner with me sometime 就是「你哪天會來跟我一起吃飯吧」，約會味道很明顯。
invite 除了「邀請」，也能說某種東西「招來、引來」結果，invites death 就是「招來死亡」。臺詞裡用它形容房間裡那件帶著死亡氣息的東西。
「這樣的感覺」，such 強調程度和種類。臺詞裡 not in many years have I had such a feeling 是「我很多年沒這麼強烈地感覺到了」，倒裝句也值得留意。
