開場是薩列里的獨白：他向上帝說，自己一心想唱歌給上帝聽，上帝給了他渴望，卻 made me mute（讓我啞了），還 deny me the talent（不給我才華）。接著學生卡捷琳娜來上課，他問她對曲子的看法，她答「是土耳其風」，又聊起剛見過的莫札特——一句 News travels fast（訊息傳得快）帶出維也納的流言。她說不論長相，Only talent interests a woman of taste（有品位的女人只對才華感興趣）。想學帶點怨氣地訴苦、想委婉評價作品、想聊八卦時怎麼起頭，這幾句都很好用。

下一章 · 07take it too hard太往心裡去這場戲：皇帝嫌歌劇音符太多「讓我啞了」。薩列里覺得自己一心想為上帝歌唱，上帝卻封住了他的聲音——不是真的不能說話，是寫不出、唱不出心裡的音樂。用來形容被奪走天賦、有口難言都行。
deny me the talent。deny 不只「否認」，還有「不給、剝奪」的意思；deny somebody something 就是不給某人某樣東西，比如 deny him the chance（不給他機會）。
是。字面是「訊息走得快」，就是中文的「壞事傳千里」那類意思，不帶貶義。片裡薩列里說 News travels fast in Vienna，就是感慨維也納這點八卦瞞不住人。
意思是「有品位的女人」。a person of + 名詞是很地道的說法，用來形容一個人有某種特質，比如 a man of few words（話不多的人）、a woman of taste（有品位的女人）。
不全是。這裡不是一起走路，而是「相配、並存」。Looks and talent don't always go together 就是說長相和才華不一定同時擁有。說兩樣東西搭配得好、常一起出現，都能用。
