Puss Gives Up the Wish, Explained: a chip off the old block
At the Wishing Star, the fight ends with a choice rather than a prize. Puss tells Kitty she deserves someone she can trust, and gives up the wish because he already has what matters: "Kitty, one life spent with you is all that I could wish for." Elsewhere, Goldi finds her wish was granted long ago.
What happens
At the Wishing Star, Death tells Puss to live his life well, while Jack Horner grabs the last wish and recites the old rhyme. Puss chooses not to use the wish for himself: he gives it to Kitty and says one life with her is all he could wish for. Goldilocks, meanwhile, realizes she already got her wish.

What's really going on
The finale answers the film's real question, which was never how to win nine lives back. Death's advice - "Live your life" - reframes everything: the point is not to be immortal but to live well. Puss acts on it by giving the wish away, telling Kitty she deserves someone she can trust, and admitting that he already has what he wanted: "one life spent with you is all that I could wish for." The same idea lands different ways across the cast. Perrito buys time with pure sincerity, Jack gets the wish and still loses, and Goldi discovers she won the orphan lottery long ago. Nobody is saved by magic; they are saved by choosing the people in front of them. That is why the last scene feels earned rather than sentimental.

Why does Puss give up the wish?
He says he already has what he wished for: a life with Kitty. He gives the wish to her because she deserves someone she can trust.
What does Death tell Puss?
He tells him to live his life and live it well, which turns the story away from immortality and toward living properly.
What does "a chip off the old block" mean here?
It means someone who resembles a parent or elder in character. It is used fondly of Goldi, who takes after Papa Bear.
Why does Goldi say she won the orphan lottery?
She was an orphan who found a family in the bears, and after nearly losing them she sees that this is the wish she truly wanted.
What happens to Jack Horner's wish?
He grabs the last wish and recites the rhyme, but it does not save him; the finale lets him lose even with the wish in hand.
