FAQ

Short answers about the product, the price, the clips, and your account.

What is WinkLingo?

We are scaling to millions of clips and 10,000+ chapters, with new films added every week. The library now holds 1,000,000+ short clips, 1,000+ films, 2,800+ long-form chapters, and 1,800+ phrase pages. Search a spoken line, open a long-form chapter with line-by-line subtitles and study notes, or open a phrase page that shows the same expression in many films.

Is it free?

During launch, the library is free to watch. An account is for saving what you study and for a paid membership. You can watch before you sign up.

How much does it cost?

Pro is $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year; start yearly before Nov 7, 2026 and you pay the early-bird $29.99 and keep renewing at that price. Lifetime is $299, paid once; before Nov 7, 2026 the first 200 founding members pay $99.99. Prices are in US dollars.Alipay can buy Lifetime, or a one-time year pass at the yearly price that does not renew. Monthly and yearly auto-renewal currently take a card.

Which languages is the interface in?

English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. The clips are in English. Where we have bilingual subtitles, those are shown with the line.

Where does the content come from?

The films and series belong to their rights holders. We use short excerpts for language study, with subtitles and notes. We do not offer full downloads, and the clips are not a substitute for watching the original.

How do I cancel?

Open Settings, then My membership, then Manage subscription. Cancelling stops the next charge. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Email [email protected]. We handle the request under Stripe's rules. Writing to us is how a request starts. This page does not promise a refund in every case.

Can I pay with Alipay?

Yes. Alipay can buy Lifetime, or a one-time year pass at the yearly price that does not renew. Monthly and yearly auto-renewal currently take a card.

How is this different from FluentU or Language Reactor?

FluentU turns videos into courses. Language Reactor is a browser extension that adds dual subtitles on services such as Netflix. WinkLingo is the site itself: search a line, read study notes on a chapter, and see one phrase across many films.

What level is it for?

Beginners who want to hear real lines, and learners who already follow the gist. It is not a graded textbook. When a chapter shows a level, that mark is only a hint.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open it in the mobile browser, or add it to your home screen and use it like an app (a PWA).

What data do you collect?

Your account email and learning history, plus anonymous visit statistics (Umami), Microsoft Clarity, and Cloudflare. Stripe handles payment, and we do not store your card number. The privacy policy has the detail.

Do I need an account?

You can watch without one. To save words, use spaced review, or subscribe, sign in with Google or an email code. A code sent to a new address creates the account.

What is spaced review?

A line you save comes back a few days later, so you hear the original scene again when you are about to forget it, instead of drilling it once and stopping.
