What happens
On the flight to Mexico, the Millers keep pretending to be a real family. David introduces Kenny and Casey by name, while Rose overplays the rebellious teenager in front of a flight attendant. Casey complains that they are drawing too much attention, and the scene ends when they find an absurdly huge RV waiting for them.

What's really going on
The airplane is the first real test of the disguise, and the joke is that everyone is bad at it. Rose, told she only has to seem like a mother, overshoots badly and says things no parent would say, which is funny and also the point: the family is being held together by performance, not truth. David, meanwhile, keeps correcting the tone, with "It's about not drawing attention to ourselves" as his recurring rule. The Fitzgeralds sitting nearby raise the stakes, since the same people the group is impersonating are watching. The scene ends with the RV gag, a reminder that the plan is barely under control.
