風聲一出，幾個人開始互相猜：上上票活兒就混進過一個 undercover cop（臥底警察），這次是誰？有人點 Joe 的名，有人回一句 For all I know, you're the rat（說不定你就是內鬼）。可有人護著裡面中槍的小子，說別叫他內鬼。想學互相猜疑、撇清關係、護著人的英語，這段最帶勁。

行動砸了之後，幾個人開始互相猜到底誰走漏了風聲。有人提起上上票活兒：那次隊裡混進過一個 undercover cop（臥底警察），還好 discovered in time（及時發現），只能把整件事丟下。這次輪到誰？有人點藍先生、棕先生，甚至 Joe 的名；被懷疑的人也不客氣，一句 For all I know, you're the rat（說不定你就是內鬼）就頂回去。可有人護著裡屋中槍的小子，說親眼看他捱了槍，別管他叫內鬼。話題一轉，有人問洗手間怎麼走，又聊起 Alabama：他們一起幹過幾票，後來 call it quits（散夥），如今她 hooked up with（跟）別人好上了。想學猜疑、互嗆、閒扯的英語，這段最像真江湖。

說自己不能斷定、留有餘地時用，熟人爭論裡最自然；正式結論裡別這麼含糊。
As far as I know, it could be you. ／ Who knows, it might even be you.
口語
For all I know 快讀，you're the rat 逐詞加重。
For all I know, the package was never sent. 說不定那包裹根本沒寄出去。
“I can say I didn't do it cause I know what I did or didn't do, but I cannot say that about anybody else, cause I don't definitely know.”
我能說自己沒幹，因為我清楚自己做了什麼、沒做什麼；可我沒法替別人這麼說，因為我不確定。
用自己知道和不知道劃清界線，是一段極冷靜的自我辯護。
I can say ... , but I cannot say that about ...
只肯為自己作證、不替別人擔保時用，講事實的場合很合適；隨口聊天會顯生硬。
I can only speak for myself. ／ I know my own part, not anybody else's.

can 和 cannot 對比重讀，cause 前後各停半拍。
I can say I was there, but I cannot say that about my friends. 我能說我在場，但我沒法替朋友這麼說。

把一段搭檔情用一句輕描淡寫收掉，越是平常越顯江湖。

說合作、感情或生意結束後不再繼續時用，熟人之間最自然；正式文裡偏口語。

先用事實堵嘴，再一句 don't you be ... 收尾，替人出頭的氣勢全出來了。

替人打抱不平、喝止對方時用；對平級或熟人很自然，對師長或客戶別這麼衝。
Don't you dare call him that. ／ He's dying, so watch your mouth.
口語
that kid in there 連讀，don't you be 重讀，a rat 收尾降調。
He's been up all night, so don't you be calling him lazy. 他熬了一整夜，你別管他叫懶。
“We discovered one of the team was an undercover cop.”
我們發現隊裡有一個是臥底警察。
一句陳述把危險說穿，team 與 undercover cop 的反差就是全部張力。
We discovered one of the team was an undercover cop.
講團隊裡發現偽裝身份的人時用；正式報告也可用，但內容要換成中性詞。
We found out one of our own was working for them. ／ One of the crew turned out to be a plant.

discovered 後微停，undercover cop 兩詞都重。
We discovered one of the crew was working for a rival firm. 我們發現團隊裡有一個人在替對手公司做事。
下一章 · 09on the up-and-up為人正派這場戲：復盤劫案並決定送醫quit 是「停止、退出」，call it quits 就是「就此收手、散夥」。多用來指合作或搭檔關係結束，也可以說兩個人決定不幹了。臺詞裡就用來講一對搭檔散夥。
undercover 是「秘密的、臥底身份的」，cop 是警察，合起來就是「臥底警察」。臺詞裡說隊裡混進過一個 undercover cop，就是「隊伍裡有一個是臥底」。
have nothing to do with。do with 在這裡是「與……有關」，加上 nothing 就是「毫無關係」。臺詞裡說喬跟這件破事毫無關係，用的就是這個說法。
字面是「就我所知道的一切而言」，實際常用來表示「說不定、我也說不好」，暗示自己掌握的資訊有限。臺詞裡說 For all I know, you're the rat，就是「說不定你就是內鬼」。
hook up with someone 在口語裡常指「跟某人好上、搭上關係」，可以指談戀愛，也可以指臨時在一起。臺詞裡說她 hooked up with 一個叫麥加爾的人。
