前輩教新人怎麼當臥底：要會演，得 naturalistic as hell（自然到骨子裡），演得假在這行根本混不下去。關鍵不是背詞，而是抓細節——It's the details that sell your story（正是細節讓故事站得住）。於是他一遍遍練那段廁所軼事，把細節 make your own（變成自己的）。想學講故事、做鋪墊的英語，這段話最實用。

老探員在教新人弗雷迪怎麼冒充罪犯。他的核心觀點是：幹這行得會演，An undercover cop's gotta be Marlon Brando（臥底得是馬龍·白蘭度那種人），而且必須 naturalistic as hell（自然到骨子裡），因為演得假在這行就是硬傷。接下來他把一段廁所軼事交給弗雷迪，讓他背下來當談資，還強調 It's the details that sell your story（正是細節讓你的故事站得住）：紙巾還是烘乾機、有沒有門、什麼肥皂，每一個細節都要 make your own（變成自己的）。練法也簡單，就是一遍遍講，講到像真的。後半段弗雷迪開始試講那套大麻舊事，磕磕巴巴地找感覺。想學怎麼講故事、怎麼把細節用起來，這段最實用。

用強調句把 the details 拎出來，一句話點破撒謊的關鍵。
It's ... that ...
要強調某物才是關鍵時用；書面和口語都合適，別用來甩鍋。
The details are what make it work. ／ It comes down to the details.
中性
It's 輕讀，重音落在 details 和 story 上。
It's the small examples that win the interviewer over. 正是那些小例子打動了面試官。

因為你要不是好演員，就是爛演員，而爛演技在這行裡就是扯淡。
一句二選一逼到牆角，把臥底的生存法則說得又狠又實在。

熟人之間把選擇說死、逼對方認真時用；正式場合別用 ain't。

口語
if you 連讀，ain't 的 t 吞掉，重音在 great 和 bad。

講某個行當的硬性要求時用；熟人聊天很自然，正式面試別用 gotta，說 have to。

To do this job 連讀，gotta be 弱讀，great actor 重讀。
To do this job, you gotta be patient with everyone. 幹這行，你得對每個人都有耐心。

這個故事發生在男廁所，所以男廁所的所有細節你都得清楚。
takes place 一句定場景，so 引出要求，把「細節決定可信度」講成了因果。
sth takes place in ..., so ...
交代故事、事件發生的地點時用；正式敘述也可用，別和 happen 混著重複說。
This scene is set in a men's room. ／ The whole thing goes down in a washroom.

takes place in 連讀，so you gotta 弱讀帶過，details 重讀。
The opening takes place in a tiny kitchen, so the props really matter. 開場發生在一間小廚房裡，所以道具特別重要。

If some nasty, lowlife, scum-ridden motherfucker, man, sprayed diarrhoea all over one of the bowls. You gotta know every detail there is to know about this commode. So, what you gotta do is take all them details, man, and make them your own. Ohh! And while you're doing that, you gotta remember that this story is about you, and how you perceived the events that went down. The only way to do that, my brother - keep saying it and saying it and saying it and saying it and saying it.

"When I get some, I'll let you know." Then these rinky-dink potheads come by - they're my friends and everything, but still, you know?

naturalistic 是「自然的、不做作的」，常用於談表演。臥底要裝得像個真罪犯，就得 naturalistic as hell，也就是「自然到骨子裡」，一點表演痕跡都不能有。
take place 是「發生、舉行」，常用來說某件事發生在某地。臺詞裡說這個故事 takes place in a men's room，就是「這個故事發生在男廁所」。
a pain in the ass。pain 是「疼痛」，ass 在這裡粗俗地代指「自己」，整句就是「讓人煩得要命的麻煩事」。臺詞裡說這事兒成了 a pain in the ass，就是「變成了個麻煩」。
every time 是「每次、每當」，引導時間或條件。它常和一般現在時或過去時連用，比如 every time I bought some weed，就是「每次我買大麻的時候」。
the only way。only 是「唯一的」，way 是「辦法、途徑」，後面常接 to do something，比如 the only way to do that，就是「做到這件事的唯一辦法」。
