死囚牢裡來了個又高又瘦的醫生，讓他照抄紙上的六個圖案，又問他一句老話什麼意思——這其實是判斷他是不是 without remorse（毫無悔意）的測試，答不好就可能被判死。他回一句「手裡有好東西，為什麼 let go of（鬆手、放棄）」。想聽懂庭審裡的心理評估，這兩個說法很關鍵。

在死刑案裡，檢方要弄清被告是不是 without remorse（毫無悔意），就派精神科醫生進牢房：霍爾布魯克和葛利格森這兩個人反覆出現，人稱 Killer Shrinks（心理醫生）。那天是報稅日，看守把蘭德爾叫出去，來了個又高又瘦、像鴕鳥的傢伙；他掏出畫了六個圖案的紙，叫蘭德爾照抄，又問他「滾石不生苔」「一鳥在手勝過雙鳥在林」是什麼意思。蘭德爾照原樣抄好，也認真解釋，可對方聽完只是搖頭，二十分鐘就走了。想描述命令、測試和放棄，order someone to、stand still、let go of 都能用上。
A1–C2 是歐標等級。點一個等級後，比它高的卡片會變淡，播放到那裡不會自動暫停。
“And here come this real tall, ostrich-looking dude.”
然後進來一個特別高、長得像鴕鳥的傢伙。
不說醫生多威嚴，只用一個荒誕比喻，把壓迫感變成了畫面。
here come/comes + 名詞（口語倒裝）
描述某人登場、帶點調侃時用；正式敘述改用 here comes。
And in walks this giant of a man. ／ Here comes my least favorite teacher.
口語
here 重讀，ostrich-looking 連成一串，dude 輕收。
And here comes this tiny dog with a huge attitude. 然後跑來一隻特別小、脾氣卻特別大的狗。
“He slides this piece of paper across to me and he hands me a pencil.”
他把這張紙推到我面前，又遞給我一支鉛筆。
兩個動作接得乾淨利落，把一次「測試」說得像場隨便的交易。
slide something across to someone
描述把東西推給對方時用；動作乾脆，適合講故事。
He pushed the form over to me. ／ She slid the keys across the counter.
中性
slides 和 hands 兩個動詞都重讀，中間稍頓。
He slid the contract across to me and handed me a pen. 他把合同推到我面前，遞過來一支筆。
“He said, "Just do whatever you think you want to do."”
他說：“你想怎麼做就怎麼做。”
一句聽上去寬容的話，放在測試裡反而最讓人摸不著底。
do whatever you think you want to do
把選擇權完全交給對方時用；也可能是懶得管、不想負責。
Do it however you like. ／ It's entirely up to you.
口語
whatever 重讀，兩個 you 輕讀，句尾放平。
Plan the trip however you think best. 這趟旅行你覺得怎麼好就怎麼安排。
“I said, "Are you kidding? Is this a joke? What are you doing?"”
你在開玩笑嗎？這是鬧著玩？你到底在幹什麼？
三連問一句比一句急，把面對荒謬測試時的錯愕全倒出來。

聽不懂、覺得離譜時連用；和別人初次見面別這樣追問。
You're joking, right? ／ Is this some kind of prank?
口語
三句都上揚，kidding 和 joke 重讀，越問越急。
Are you kidding? Is this a joke? You want it by tonight? 你在開玩笑吧？今晚就要？
“"If he keeps moving around, it's hard to get close to him."”
他要是總在四處奔波，別人就很難靠近他。
把一句老諺語講成大白話，既是解釋，也像在說他自己。
If someone keeps doing X, it's hard to Y.
用條件句解釋因果時用；談感情、談處境都合適。
If you never settle down, people can't reach you. ／ Keep moving and nobody gets close.
中性
keeps 和 hard 重讀，條件句前半上揚。
If he keeps moving around, it's hard to keep the friendship alive. 他要是一直搬來搬去，這份友情就很難維持。
“"It doesn't make sense. You've got something good, why let go of it?”
這說不通。你已經有了好東西，為什麼要放手？
先把道理說死，再丟擲反問，把「別放手」講得無法反駁。
You've got something good, why let go of it?
勸人別丟掉手上的好東西時用；反問語氣很直接。
Why throw away what already works? ／ Don't trade a sure thing for a maybe.

doesn't 重讀，why 上揚，let go of it 連讀。
You've got a good job, why let go of it for a maybe? 你這份工作挺好的，幹嘛為了一個沒譜的機會放棄？
“Total time we had talked, maybe 15, 20 minutes.”
我們聊了總共也就十五、二十分鐘。
用一句輕描淡寫的時間統計，反襯出這場測試決定了生死。
Total time ..., maybe + 時間.
想強調某件事其實很倉促時用；後面常接一個大概數字。
All in all, maybe twenty minutes. ／ The whole thing lasted about fifteen minutes.
中性
Total time 稍頓，15, 20 兩個數字都重讀，句尾下沉。
Total time they interviewed me, maybe ten minutes. 他們面試我總共也就十分鐘。

用 let go of。片裡解釋諺語時說 You've got something good, why let go of it，就是「你已經有了好東西，為什麼放手」。手裡攥著的東西松開也叫 let go of。
用 order someone to。片裡說法院 ordered me to talk to him，就是「法院命令我去跟他談」。上司硬性要求你做什麼，也可以用 order someone to。
shrink 是「心理醫生」的口語說法，Killer Shrinks 就是「殺手心理醫生」，指那兩個總在死刑案裡出場、專把被告說成危險人格的精神科醫生。
