審訊室裡，警探拿著認罪書逼蘭德爾簽字，他一口回絕，對方就把手槍扔上桌、拔槍指著他的頭。他說 He didn't give a damn what I said（他根本不在乎我說什麼），又說 I do not like looking down the barrel（被人用槍口對著）。想學怎麼拒絕、怎麼形容被人拿槍威脅，這些句子全是素材。

控訴被剝奪的權利時用；寫正式陳述尤其有力，聊天裡少這麼講。

Never once 連成一拍重讀，was I 弱讀。
Never once was I told the flight had been cancelled. 從來沒人告訴過我航班取消了。
“Never once was an attorney there.”
也一次都沒讓我見律師。
同樣的倒裝再來一遍，排比裡是越來越冷的絕望。

強調關鍵時刻無人到場時用；熟人間更常說 nobody was there。

Never once 提高，was an 連讀，there 收得平。

偵探的一句冷靜判斷，比任何咆哮都更像定罪。

形容某人毫無愧疚時用；當面這樣說等於撕破臉，慎用。

found 後略停，that 弱讀，conscience 重音在前。
I found almost immediately that he didn't have much patience for questions. 我幾乎馬上發現，他沒什麼耐心回答問題。

size someone up。原句 to try to size him up，就是「想摸清他是什麼人」，面試、相親、談判前打量對方都能用。
