哈里在夜總會裡演了一齣小把戲：舉著個“撿到的”錢包問 I beg your pardon, does this wallet belong to one of you gentlemen?（打擾一下，這錢包是你們哪位先生的嗎？），再順口講起芝加哥的舊相識拉蒙特。對方一聽，喊出 Well, what do you know?（你說巧不巧？）——以為遇上了老鄉，其實全是套路。

哈里從線報下手：夜總會裡來了 Three live ones（三個好上鉤的），是兩個芝加哥男裝商人，其中一個 half-pint（小個子）總唸叨要給老朋友拉蒙特寫信。他拿著錢包上前，客氣地問 I beg your pardon, does this wallet belong to one of you gentlemen?（這錢包是你們哪位先生的嗎？），又講起在美國丟錢包、認識一個做配件、就叫 Lamont 的朋友。對方立刻來了精神：Did you say Lamont?（你說的拉蒙特？），喊出 Well, what do you know? We were just talking about him!（哎呀，你說巧不巧，我們剛才還正說他呢）。有人感嘆 It's like meeting someone from home（就像遇上老鄉一樣），哈里叮囑他們寫信時 give him my best（替我問他好），遞上名片，把兩位請去 Silver Fox（銀狐俱樂部）。

其中一個，那個矮個子，一直唸叨著有個叫拉蒙特的朋友，說他非得給人家寫信不可。
把無心的一句話記成把柄，越瑣碎的細節越顯出聽者的精明。

轉述某人反覆唸叨的內容、點出可利用資訊時用；正式彙報裡顯得太隨意。

Say, er 輕快帶過，surely 重讀，句尾問號上揚。

what do you know 整體上揚，just talking about him 加快，句尾 him 落重。
Well, what do you know? We were just talking about her in the kitchen. 哎呀，你說巧不巧？我們剛在廚房還說起她呢。

下一章 · 05take it easy別激動這場戲：在摔跤場被趕出去在口語裡常作感嘆，表示「你說巧不巧、真沒想到」。原句 Well, what do you know，是聽說對方認識拉蒙特時的驚喜反應。
本義是「請再說一遍」或「對不起」，也常用來禮貌地開口打擾別人。原句就是拿著錢包客氣地問「這是你們哪位先生的嗎」。
字面是「半品脫」，口語裡指小個子、小不點兒，常帶調侃。原句用它指那兩個商人裡比較矮的那位。
be well taken care of。take care of 是「照顧」，原句 You'll be well taken care of，就是「你在那兒會被照顧得很好」。
指「巧合、巧事」。原句 That's quite a coincidence，就是「真是太巧了」，正是哈里這場戲要製造的效果。
give him my best。原句 give him my best，就是「替我向他問好」，best 在這裡等於 best regards，寫信、託人轉達時用。
