1960年有人第一次到東非，覺得一個物種竟能威脅荒野的存續，inconceivable that（簡直無法想像）。馬賽語裡這片地方叫無盡的平原：同一個點可以一隻動物都看不到，第二天早上卻湧來一百萬頭角馬，幾天後又消失在地平線外。大群都能被平原 swallow up（整個吞沒），難怪覺得沒有盡頭。科學家和兒子乘飛機跟著獸群，發現少了廣袤完好的草原，獸群會萎縮，整個生態會 come crashing down（轟然整個垮掉）。落點一句：荒野 far from unlimited（遠算不上無限），它有限，需要保護。形容超出想像、整個吞掉、突然崩塌、強調其實有限，這幾句都能用。

先承認這個錯覺情有可原，再用「吞沒」寫出獸群有多大，「無盡」才顯得說得通。

平原能把這麼大的獸群整個吞沒，就可以說 swallow up。意思是整個吞沒，不是咬掉一點。一個地方大到能裝下一整群，也能用。
簡直無法想像，語氣很重。那時候覺得一個物種竟能威脅荒野存續，超出當時的想像，不是輕輕的「沒想到」。
把路線標繪下來。獸群渡河、穿過林地、越過國界，移動路線被標到圖上，就是 charted them。記錄一群動物怎麼走，可以用。
裡面完全沒有。同一個地方 totally empty of animals，是一隻動物都沒有。說場地裡某樣東西一點不剩，用 empty of，比單說沒有更徹底。
