少管所的教室裡，老師拿著批改好的報告走進來，用一句 happy to tell you（很高興告訴你）宣佈全班都通過了，還說班上有位隱藏的藝術家。接著他先給藝術下定義，用 for the record（正式說明一下）強調這是自己的立場，再當眾朗讀洛夫格倫報告腳註裡的剪報——死者正是圖伊蒂，教室瞬間炸開。混亂中奧布萊恩問起自己的賠率，佩雷蒂報完數，又補一句 nothing personal（不是針對你）。想學正式場合怎麼開口、怎麼把話說得客氣又疏離，這場戲的幾句英文很實用。

下一章 · 09ready to blow一觸即發這場戲：被叫錯名字當場翻臉意思是「大熱門、最被看好的人」，來自賽馬和下注。賭局裡押誰贏面最大，就說誰是 odds-on favorite。
nothing personal。把不好聽的話說完，再補這一句，表示對事不對人，常見於玩笑或拒絕的場合。
想強調某句話是正式表態、要別人記住時用。開會、談判、公開說明都能用，語氣比普通的 I think 更鄭重。
多半是。「沒想到你有這本事」的意思，通常帶點驚訝和欣賞；也可以拿來陰陽怪氣，看語氣。
多數時候是正式報喜，像宣佈好訊息、公佈結果。若語氣一沉，也可能被用來反諷，但正常語境裡就是「很高興告訴你」。
