「從……辭職」，後面接單位。菲爾丁說 I shall resign from the college，就是如果阿齊茲被判有罪，他就辭掉學院的工作。
「等待判決」，await 比 wait for 更書面。菲爾丁說 I shall await the verdict of the court，表示他不會憑猜測下結論，而是看法庭怎麼判。
意思是「儘量少、能免則免」。有人說 don't go out any more than you can help，就是讓女士們非必要別出門，能不出門就不出門。
