法庭上，法官達斯一錘定音：I must repeat that, as a witness, Mrs Moore does not exist.（我必須重申，作為證人，莫爾太太並不存在。）他說雙方都沒有 right to surmise（有權推測）她會怎麼說。另一邊，莫爾太太已在海上病逝，禱詞念起 resurrection（復活）。一句「證人不在了」把辯論直接掐斷，用法庭話術就該學這段。

in person 三個詞把「書面敷衍」堵死，要求只有一個：當面。

要求對方當面表態或道歉時用；語氣正式而堅決。

consequently 把「缺席」和「失語」扣成邏輯鏈，法庭的冷酷一覽無餘。

說明必然結果時用；比 so 更正式，適合報告和演說。

意思一樣，都是「因此」，但 consequently 更正式，常用於書面和法庭。法官說 she is not here and, consequently, she can say nothing。
「傳喚、請某人發言」。法官說 I now call upon Miss Quested，就是現在傳喚阿德拉·奎斯特德上庭作證，日常裡也可以指請人講話。
