旅店裡，萊托勒念著報紙上泰坦尼克號的香皂廣告，一句 The rest don't wash, of course（剩下那些人當然不洗澡）把妻子逗笑，卻惹惱了鄰座的克拉克，他嫌這話 in bad taste（不得體）。萊托勒趕緊道歉，對方回一句 Soap is no laughing matter（香皂可不是鬧著玩的事），氣就散了。想用玩笑化解尷尬，這段值得聽。

in bad taste。taste 指品味，in bad taste 就是說言行不得體、讓人不舒服。克拉克覺得萊托勒夫婦譏諷的口氣 in bad taste，才當面提出抗議。
belittle 是及物動詞，意為「貶低、看輕」。片裡說 Let those who wish to belittle their country's achievements do so in private（想貶低國家成就就私下說去），語氣相當重。
意思是「以檢驗合格為準」。收貨的人說 we'll take the rest, subject to inspection，就是其餘的都收下，但要先檢查合格——這是商務場景裡常見的條件說法。
I take it 表示「我想、我猜」，用來確認自己根據情況做出的推測，比 I think 更客氣。克拉克問 You're joining her at Liverpool, I take it? 就是「我想您是在利物浦登船吧」。
