夜深了，萊托勒接崗，先問氣溫和冰情，一句 almost freezing point（快到冰點）聽著平常，卻是在為浮冰做準備。他命令瞭望哨 keep their eyes skinned（瞪大眼睛盯緊）小浮冰和 growlers（碎冰山），前方還是出現了冰，船隨即停車。想學怎麼下達警告、怎麼描述危險，這幾句又短又實用。

口語
that's about 連讀，the lot 降調收尾，語氣越隨意越穩。
Keys, codes, and the cat's food, that's about the lot. 鑰匙、密碼、貓糧，差不多就這些了。
下一章 · 05drop someone a hint給某人透個口風這場戲：乘客拿日航程設賭局字面是「把眼睛的皮繃緊」，實際就是瞪大眼睛、盯得很緊。片里長官讓瞭望哨盯緊小浮冰和碎冰山時用的就是這句。
growlers，指露出水面很低、幾乎看不見的小冰山，對船很危險。片中說 special watch for small ice and growlers，就是特別警戒這兩樣。
on account of。片中用來說明船因為結冰而停下：stopped on account of ice。它後面接名詞，比 because 更正式一點。
英式口語，等於「好嘞、行」，答應別人的吩咐時用。片裡接到命令後回一句 Right-ho，很輕鬆隨意。
pass it on。片裡交代瞭望哨換班時把警戒令往下傳，用的就是 Tell 'em to pass it on。日常也可以說 pass it on to someone。
