指揮中心電話響個不停：波士頓中心把錄音 pull the tapes（調取錄音）拿到手，裡面一句「We have some planes」（我們有多架飛機）讓所有人繃緊。一架美航客機在曼哈頓附近憑空消失，軍方急著要 scramble authority（緊急起飛授權）。想學排程、追蹤、上報的英文，這幾句用得上。

聯邦航空局和北美防空司令部的指揮中心亂成一團：先是發現反劫機管制員崗位上沒人、也沒 backup（後備人手），隨後波士頓中心 pull the tapes（調取錄音），確認那句可疑通話就是「We have some planes」（我們有多架飛機）。一架往南飛的美航客機聯絡不上，被問到是否做過 voice recognition（聲紋識別），目標卻在曼哈頓附近突然從雷達上消失，可能飛到了 radar coverage（雷達覆蓋範圍）以下。眾人一邊呼叫肯尼迪、紐瓦克塔臺，一邊向長官申請 scramble authority（緊急起飛授權），最後下令讓奧蒂斯的戰機升空。想學排程、追蹤、上報的英文，這段資訊量很大。
A1–C2 是歐標等級。點一個等級後，比它高的卡片會變淡，播放到那裡不會自動暫停。

backup。臺詞問你們總該有 backup，就是「你們總該有後備吧」。人手、方案、裝置都能用 backup，指隨時能頂上的人或備用方案。
指「緊急起飛授權」。scramble 有緊急升空攔截的意思，軍方要派戰機升空，必須先拿到上級的 scramble authority，否則不能動。
是航空行話，指飛機的應答機在向雷達傳送訊號。臺詞說 Nothing's squawking，就是「一個應答訊號都沒有」，意味著目標從雷達上消失了。
radar coverage。臺詞說目標可能 went below radar coverage，就是「飛到了雷達覆蓋範圍以下」。低空飛行時，飛機就可能脫離 radar coverage。
