下一章 · 06stood me up放鴿子這場戲：聖誕派對上電梯調情意思是「諸如此類、那一套」。有人道賀說 Congratulations and all that jazz，就是「恭喜啊，還有那一套客套話」，用來把老套的東西一句話帶過。
說 We made you and we can break you。這是上司撂下的狠話：我們能把你捧上來，也能把你整垮。make 和 break 一對反義，聽著客氣又危險。
說 play ball with。上司說 We went to bat for you. Now you won't play ball with us，就是我們替你出過頭，你卻不配合我們。棒球的說法，用在職場很常見。
說 for laughs。謝爾德雷克說 You see a girl every week for laughs，就是「你每週見個姑娘圖個樂子」，把自己說成被誤解的可憐人。
不是。這裡 what counts 是「真正重要的」。上司說 Teamwork: That's what counts，就是團隊精神才是最重要的，跟大家數數沒關係。
