說 the plain fact is。巴克斯特表白時就是 The plain fact is, I love her，意思是「說白了，我愛她」，把繞不開的真心話直接擺出來。
說 a kick in the head。謝爾德雷克自嘲 My secretary got to my wife, and my wife fired me. Ain't that a kick in the head?，就是秘書捅到太太那裡、太太把他趕出來，等於當頭一棒。
說 try it on for size。謝爾德雷克讓巴克斯特坐下試新職位，說 Sit down. Try it on for size，本意是試穿看尺碼，用來形容先試試一份工作合不合適，很傳神。
他本來是來表白、想把弗蘭接過去的，結果謝爾德雷克搶先宣佈自己也離了婚、也要接手她，還順手給他升職。臺詞說 it's just that so many things have been happening so fast，事情太多太快，他一時消化不了。
