意思是「把……搞垮、拖垮」。臺詞說 Bad ideas brought it down，就是「是壞主意把它搞垮的」。bring down 常用來講把公司、政府或人拉下馬。
leave the company，過去式是 left the company。臺詞說 the smartest managers and the better workers left the company，就是「最聰明的經理和最能幹的工人都離開了公司」，leave 泛指離職，不一定是辭職。
意思是「利他的、為他人著想的」。臺詞裡罵 stupid altruistic urges，就是「愚蠢的利他衝動」，指那種不顧自己、只顧幫別人的空想。這個詞偏書面，常帶批判。
意思是「弄清楚、搞明白」。臺詞說 I'd really like to figure out what happened here，就是「真想弄清楚這裡發生了什麼」。想搞懂難題、查清真相都能用。
walked away，本意是「走開」，引申為撒手不管、撂挑子。臺詞說 Looks like they just walked away，就是「看樣子他們乾脆撂挑子走人了」，指丟下爛攤子不負責。
