基地裡，曼德雷克求裡珀趁早 recall the wing（召回飛行聯隊），裡珀卻顧左右而言他，唸叨 Water on the back of the neck（後脖頸拍點水），又說自己遲早要 answer for（為做過的事負責）。曼德雷克只能一邊順著哄，一邊想辦法把召回密碼套出來。想學怎麼在壓力下週旋，這幾句很實用。

伯普爾森空軍基地裡，曼德雷克懇求裡珀趁還來得及召回飛行聯隊，別讓核彈飛出去。裡珀卻繞開正題：他念叨那些飛行員就像自己的孩子，如今辜負了他；又扯到自己相信來世，遲早要 answer for（為做過的事負責）；還堅持自己喝了很多水，體液一點問題都沒有，甚至提到 Water on the back of the neck（後脖頸拍點水）。曼德雷克一邊順著他的話安撫，一邊想套出召回密碼，最後提議玩個猜謎遊戲。想學怎麼軟化對方、怎麼承擔責任、怎麼談身體和健康，這幾句都很實用。
A1–C2 是歐標等級。點一個等級後，比它高的卡片會變淡，播放到那裡不會自動暫停。

一句把佔有慾說成父愛，越溫情越顯出控制慾。

對親近的後輩表達偏愛時用；正式場合用會顯得矯情。

下一章 · 14evasive action規避動作這場戲：轟炸機躲導彈意思是「辜負、讓某人失望」。裡珀說那些飛行員 Now they let me down，就是覺得他們讓自己失望了。你也可以說 I won't let you down，我不會讓你失望。
用 stand up under，後面接壓力或折磨，比如 stand up under torture。曼德雷克說自己不知道能不能撐住，就是 I don't know how well I could stand up under torture。
going-over 指「一頓狠揍或訓斥」。裡珀說外面的人要給他 a pretty good going-over for the code，就是為了密碼要狠狠收拾他一頓。
answer for 指「為某事負責、受問責」，常用在 answer for what I've done 這樣的說法裡。裡珀說自己相信來世，知道終有一天要為自己的所作所為負責。
prisoner of war 就是「戰俘」，縮寫是 POW，指戰爭中被敵方俘虜的軍人。裡珀問曼德雷克有沒有當過戰俘，是想套他的話。
