警局裡，克魯索拍胸脯說今晚就能交出兇手，還定下八點整拉總閘的計劃，接著要跟德雷福斯對錶。兩人一個說七點四十六，一個說快七點四十七，越對越亂，最後一塊錶停了。想學怎麼佈置一個 cannot possibly fail（絕不可能失敗）的計劃，或說到 about to（正要）出手的一刻，看這場就夠。

警局裡，德雷福斯正為接連的命案發火，譏諷克魯索是「自卡斯特將軍以來最偉大的預言家」；克魯索卻堅稱瑪麗亞無辜，兇手是衝他來的。他當場立下軍令狀：今晚之前交出兇手，辦法絕不會失敗。他讓德雷福斯八點整在他即將說出兇手名字時拉下總閘，關燈五秒放兇手逃走，再順藤摸瓜。計劃說完，兩人開始 synchronize watches（對錶），卻一個七點四十六、一個快七點四十七，來回糾正，最後一塊表竟停了。想學怎麼講一套 plan、怎麼用 about to（正要）和 qualifies you as（夠格算作）這類說法，這場戲很實用。

synchronize watches，就是「把時間調一致」。synchronize 是使同步，watches 是手錶。戲裡兩人要一起行動，先 synchronize watches，結果越對越亂，成了整場的笑點。
表示「正要、即將」做某事：I'm about to name the murderer 就是「我正要說出兇手的名字」。常和 just as 連用，強調兩件事幾乎同時發生。比 will 更強調馬上要發生。
就是「我會想辦法」，用來安撫別人、表示自己有辦法解決。戲裡一塊錶停了，對錶沒法繼續，說話的人仍說 I'll find a way. Don't worry，把局面先穩住。
「夠格算作、有資格當」。戲裡那句諷刺說，照克魯索一直以來的判斷，他夠格當自卡斯特將軍以來最偉大的預言家，其實是在挖苦他屢屢猜錯。
