羅莎琳德被人帶走，對方一臉客氣：Now, Rosalind, don't be alarmed（羅莎琳德，別驚慌），轉頭卻把她扣下。另一邊偵探抱怨人被 give me the slip（甩掉），害他搞不清後續。想學這種綁人還彬彬有禮、甩人還裝無辜的說法，這幾句夠用。
先安撫：Now, Rosalind, don't be alarmed（別驚慌）

一條線上，德萊艾找上門，羅莎琳德想掛電話都被攔住；對方先客氣一句 Now, Rosalind, don't be alarmed（別驚慌），接著說 But you're gonna come with me（你得跟我走一趟），要她跟自己走，直到把她丈夫那些爛事了結。她只回 I'm not going anywhere（我哪兒也不去）。另一條線上，偵探在車上邊開邊打電話找人，說自己被他們 give me the slip（甩掉）了，還提醒對方 put your seat belt on（繫上安全帶）。don't be alarmed 是「別驚慌」，常用來安撫或穩住對方；give someone the slip 是把人甩掉、溜走；put your seat belt on 就是繫上安全帶。綁架、追逐、打電話這些場面，這幾句很實用。
A1–C2 是歐標等級。點一個等級後，比它高的卡片會變淡，播放到那裡不會自動暫停。
“But you're gonna come with me until I can resolve all these issues with your husband.”

把綁架說成「跟我走一趟」，越輕描淡寫越叫人後背發涼。

控制對方、不給退路時用；對朋友開玩笑會立刻變味，別亂用。

口語
gonna 輕讀，until I can 連讀，句尾降調收。
You're gonna stay here until I get my money. 在拿到我的錢之前，你就待在這兒。

到這一步，我猜你當時還不知道喬治勳爵已經死了。
用一句「我猜」把死亡訊息說得像閒聊，冷靜得近乎殘忍。

點破對方後知後覺時用；對當事人這樣說，等於當面揭短。
I take it nobody told you yet. ／ My guess is you hadn't heard the news.

一句抱怨把敘事斷口說圓，give me the slip 又準又俏。

解釋自己為何不知情、順便埋怨對方時用；正式彙報裡別這麼口語。

exactly sure 輕讀，give me the slip 連成一串。

先說「別慌」再動手，正是綁匪最標準的開場白。

要宣佈壞訊息前安撫對方時用；真出事時這麼說反而更嚇人。

don't be 連讀，alarmed 重讀並稍拖長。
Don't be alarmed, but the flight is cancelled. 別慌，不過航班取消了。
下一章 · 13on the cheap賤價這場戲：登門要挾反被轟走意思是把某人甩掉、趁人不注意溜走。原句說你們倆 managed to give me the slip，就是「你們倆把我甩掉了」，甩得乾淨利落。
說 Suit yourself。別人拒絕你的好意、或不肯配合時，用這句表示「那隨你」，語氣有點無所謂，甚至帶點不高興。
意思是「別驚慌」，常用來安撫人、或把壞訊息說輕。原句 Now, Rosalind, don't be alarmed，先安撫再攤牌，越是客氣越讓人心裡發毛。
說 let alone，後面接更極端的情況。原句 Let alone what Dry Eye was up to，就是「更別提德萊艾在打什麼主意了」。
多半不是。它是反諷，表面「哦太好了」，實際是嫌麻煩又來一樁。原句 Oh goody. Another bottle，就是那種皮笑肉不笑。
