深宅大門被敲響，一個自稱車拋錨的訪客上門借電話，屋裡人答話卻前後矛盾。有人一句 I have nothing to hide（我沒什麼好隱瞞的）想證明坦蕩，訪客卻聽出不對勁，用 There seems to be some kind of disagreement（看來有點分歧）輕輕點破。想問事又不想逼太緊，這兩句日常都能用。
客人來訪想說「以防萬一」：just in case
anxious about 為某事焦慮help yourself to 自便取用just in case 以防萬一
一位訪客按響深宅門鈴，說在大門附近發現一輛被遺棄的車，問司機有沒有進來求助，屋裡人卻一會兒說沒有、一會兒改口，還把他請進書房打電話。門內有人用 I have nothing to hide（我沒什麼好隱瞞的）表白坦蕩，訪客借 by any chance（碰巧）禮貌打聽，又用 There seems to be some kind of disagreement（看來有點分歧）把矛盾說得很輕，最後竟被反鎖在屋裡，隔著門喊 false arrest（非法逮捕）抗議。想禮貌試探、想輕描淡寫地說出分歧，或想讓自己的話顯得坦蕩，這幾句都能直接搬去用。
A1–C2 是歐標等級。點一個等級後，比它高的卡片會變淡，播放到那裡不會自動暫停。
“I have nothing to hide.”
我沒什麼好隱瞞的。
短短一句把底氣亮出來，越坦蕩越像在跟滿屋子的心虛作對。
I have nothing to hide.
被懷疑、要求自查時用；真做了虧心事的人說這句會更可疑。
There is nothing I need to cover up. ／ I have nothing to be ashamed of.
中性
I have 輕讀，nothing to 連讀，hide 重讀收尾。
Check my files, I have nothing to hide. 隨便查我的檔案，我沒什麼好隱瞞的。
“You all seem to be very anxious about something.”
你們好像都在為什麼事焦慮。
訪客不揭穿，只把觀察擺出來，一句話就把滿屋子的破綻點破。
You all seem to be very ... about something.
委婉點出別人神色不對時用；語氣拿捏不好會顯得在審問。
Something here seems to have everyone on edge. ／ You all look worried about something.
正式
seem to be 連讀，anxious 重讀，something 放輕收尾。
You all seem to be very quiet about the news. 你們對這訊息好像都格外沉默。
“It's the chandelier, fell down and almost killed us.”
是那盞吊燈，掉下來差點砸死我們。
隨口編的藉口還帶著畫面，越具體越假，笑點就藏在理直氣壯裡。
It's the ..., it fell down and almost killed us.
替人圓場、臨時編理由時用；被認真追責時別拿它搪塞。
It was the old wiring, it nearly burned the place down. ／ A shelf collapsed and almost hit us.
口語
chandelier 咬清，fell down 連讀，almost killed us 加速帶過。
It's the cat, it knocked the whole shelf over. 是那隻貓，它把整個架子都撞翻了。
“I don't know. He's on everybody else's. Why shouldn't he be on mine?”
我不知道。別人電話上都有他。為什麼我這兒就不能有？
用別人都這樣當理由，答得荒唐又理直氣壯，冷幽默十足。

被人質問奇怪現象時能用；需要認真解釋的場合這樣答會顯得敷衍。
Everyone else has one. Why not me? ／ They're on everybody else's list, so why not mine?
口語
everybody else's 連讀，句尾 mine 上揚反問。
All the other flats have a cat. Why shouldn't we have one? 別人家都養貓。咱們家為什麼就不能養？
下一章 · 12step by step一步一步這場戲：帶眾客人逐個房間復盤表示「碰巧、也許」，常放在疑問句末尾，讓請求聽起來更委婉、更不強求。想問對方某件事是不是剛好發生過，這樣問最客氣。
說 I have nothing to hide。別人懷疑你時，用這句表示自己坦蕩、不怕查，語氣比 I didn't do it 更主動。
可以用 There seems to be some kind of disagreement，把明顯的矛盾說得很輕，適合不想撕破臉的場合。
它讓話變模糊，暗示「大概是某種」，不把分歧說死，語氣比直接說 disagreement 更圓滑、更留餘地。
用 help yourself，比如 Please help yourself to a drink，就是請對方隨意取用、別客氣，客人上門招待時很常用。
