問職業常用 do for a living，比如 What do you do for a living? 就是「你靠什麼謀生」，比直接問 job 更自然。
不是，是讓人「安靜點、閉嘴」的口語說法，帶點脾氣。臺詞裡用 Pipe that down! 喝止吵起來的人，比 be quiet 更衝。
意思是某事讓人很震驚、很意外。可以說 It came as a shock to him，就是「這讓他大為震驚」，壞訊息、變故都常用。
now that 強調「既然現在……了」，多接一個剛發生的變化，比如 Now that he's dead（他既然死了）；because 只講原因，沒這層時間變化。
