jailhouse lawyer 指「在监狱里自学法律、爱给狱友出主意的犯人」。台词里老爸这么叫丹尼，带点玩笑，也说明丹尼爱较真、爱讲道理。
come down to 是「归结为、取决于」，用来说明事情最终系于某一点。台词里说这是你家，所以 it comes down to you，就是「就看你这个当家人的了」。
look out for someone。look out 有「留神」的意思，look out for someone 就是「替某人留心、为某人着想」。台词里说 I'm just looking out for you，就是「我只是为你好」。
a mess。mess 本是「混乱、烂摊子」，形容人时 a mess 就是「一团糟的人、状态很糟的人」。台词里说她 she's a mess，跟中文的「她是个乱摊子」意思接近。
