希尔迪钻进牢房，一句 My name's Johnson 开始采访厄尔·威廉斯，问他开枪时想的是什么，一步步把他引到「为使用而生产」。出来时记者们却在打赌：I give the marriage six months（我打赌这婚撑不过六个月）。想学采访和打赌的说法，ten to one（十有八九）这类表达都用得上。

希尔迪溜进牢房采访厄尔·威廉斯，先自报家门 I'm Johnson，再一点点问出他的遭遇：丢了工作、在公园听街头演说、开始信那些话。她引导他回忆开枪那一刻，把话题绕到「为使用而生产」，让厄尔亲口说枪就是用来开枪的、这没什么疯——正好给了报纸证明他神志不清的材料。厄尔还说 It's against everything I stand for，坚称自己没罪。采访结束，记者室里的人却更关心希尔迪的婚事，一句 I give the marriage six months，赌她和布鲁斯撑不久。几个表达值得学：give something six months 是「预计撑不过半年」，ten to one 是「十有八九」，stand for 是「信奉、代表某种原则」。采访、八卦、打赌时都能用。
A1–C2 是欧标等级。点一个等级后，比它高的卡片会变淡，播放到那里不会自动暂停。
“So I couldn't plead insanity. I'm just as sane as anybody else.”

一句自证清醒，却把死刑犯的绝望说得轻描淡写，反着听更刺人。

被人暗示你有毛病时反着用，语气要平；正式场合别拿来抬杠。

重音落在 sane 和 else，前半句别抢拍。
I'm just as capable as anybody else in this room. 我跟这屋里任何人一样能干。
“Of course not. It's against everything I stand for.”
当然不是。那违背我信奉的一切。
否认里带着信念，比喊「我没干」更有分量，一句立住人物。

把看衰别人的话说成赌注，油滑又轻蔑，记者腔一下就出来了。

熟人之间打趣、下判断时用；对不熟的人说会显得轻浮。

口语
ten to one 连成一串，don't last 连读。
I'll bet you ten to one the meeting runs long. 我赌十比一，这会一定开超时。
“I've never had a gun in my hand before.”
我以前从没拿过枪。
一句平静的陈述，把死刑犯的荒诞与可怜全压在手里那支枪上。
I've never had a ... in my ... before.
描述第一次经历某件危险事时用；放在玩笑场合会显得不合时宜。
I've never held one of these before. ／ I'd never even touched a gun until that day.
中性
never 咬重，gun in my hand 连读，before 轻收。
I've never had a snake in my hand before. 我以前从没把蛇捧在手里过。
“It must be pretty nice to be able to walk out of a place and quit.”
能说走就走、撂挑子不干，一定挺爽的。
用羡慕的口吻说出记者对自由的向往，也反衬他们谁也走不掉。
It must be pretty nice to be able to ... and ....
羡慕别人能潇洒脱身时用；对刚失业的人说会像在炫耀。
It must be nice to just walk away. ／ I wish I could pack up and quit like that.
口语
must be 连读，pretty nice 上扬，quit 尾音干脆。
It must be pretty nice to be able to sleep in and quit rushing. 能睡到自然醒、不用赶时间，可真让人羡慕。

可以说 ten to one。字面是「十比一」，赌注赔率里就代表把握很大，所以 I'll bet you ten to one 就是「我十有八九敢跟你赌」。
是「信奉、代表某种原则」。厄尔说 It's against everything I stand for，意思是杀人不符合他信奉的一切，用来替自己辩解。
是法律说法，指「以精神失常为由抗辩」，想借此脱罪。厄尔说自己没法 plead insanity，因为他跟别人一样清醒。
意思是「送某人出门」。有人问 You mind if I don't show you out?，就是客气地说「我不送你了，你不介意吧」，通常出现在客人要告辞的时候。
