婚礼开始，神父照例问有没有 inward impediment（内心的障碍），若有就以灵魂之名，命他们把话说出来。谁料誓词刚要交换，男方当众翻脸拒婚，场面瞬间崩塌。有人看着这一切只说 Let us go（我们走吧），说这些话曝了光，足以 smother her spirits（把人憋闷垮）。想学法庭和仪式上的正式英语，这些话最好用。

impediment 是「障碍」，inward 是「内心的」。婚礼上神父问有没有 inward impediment，就是问两人心里有没有什么隐情，使这段婚事不能成立。
counterpoise something。counterpoise 本是「配重、使平衡」，引申为「与……相当、抵得上」。台词里用它说拿不出与这份厚礼相等的回赠。
utter something。utter 作动词是「说出、讲出」，比 say 更正式。神父说 I charge you to utter it，就是「我命你们把它说出来」，用在庄重场合。
smother 是「闷住、使窒息」，spirits 指情绪、精神。整句是「把人憋闷垮、压得透不过气」。结尾有人担心这些丑事一曝光，会把希罗整个压垮。
