cop-out找借口

用一句平淡叙述交代一家人的喘息，越平静越衬后面的失控。

X was gone, but things were almost normal again.

叙述一段好不容易平静下来的日子时用；正式报告里别这么口语。

He had left, yet life was nearly back on track. ／ Things were almost normal again after he went.

中性

was gone 轻读，almost normal 稍重，句尾放平。

The boxes were gone, but things were almost normal again. 箱子都清走了，日子又几乎恢复正常。

先用一句否定定性，再甩出反问，逼对方解释自己的逻辑。

That's stupid, though. Why ...?

当面质疑一个说不通的举动时用；对长辈或客人这样说太重。

That makes no sense. Why wreck your own block? ／ That's just dumb — why burn where you live?

口语

That's stupid 稍重，though 轻带，Why 上扬。

That's stupid, though. Why cancel the trip now? 可这说不通。干嘛现在取消行程？

一个 cop-out 先定性，再补一句更狠的判断，反驳得像判词。

That's such a cop-out — it's ... at its worst.

当面戳穿对方在开脱时用；工作正式汇报里别用 cop-out。

That's a total dodge. It's opportunism, plain and simple. ／ What a cop-out. That's the worst kind of excuse.

口语

cop-out 重读，opportunism 放慢，at its worst 收重。

That's such a cop-out. It's laziness dressed up as policy. 这纯粹是找借口。是把懒惰包装成政策。

命令句加一句不耐烦的感叹，把情绪和证据一起摔上桌。

Look at the ..., for Christ's sake.

要对方别空谈、看事实时用；正式场合的 for Christ's sake 会冒犯人。

Just look at the numbers, for goodness' sake. ／ Read the figures — come on.

口语

statistics 重读，for Christ's sake 压低声快速带过。

Look at the statistics, for Christ's sake — sales are down. 看在老天份上，看看数据吧，销量在跌。

用对仗拆穿对方的换词术，再一锤定音，节奏干脆。

It's not A, it's B. That's just nonsense.

要揭穿换概念、把话说死时用；讨论中给对方留余地就别这么冲。

Call it poverty if you like — it's still a crime. ／ Not an excuse, just a word game.

中性

两个 it's 平行，nonsense 重读收尾。
