「Joe Accuses Orange of Being a Cop」を読み解く

What's really going on

The final standoff is built on a lie that is partly true. Orange's story about Blonde is fake, but the betrayal is real; the man warning everyone that 'that lump of shit's workin' with the LAPD' is naming the wrong traitor. Joe's defence of Blonde is the strongest evidence of his own loyalty: he lists what Blonde refused to do in prison and asks whether such a man would 'rip us off.' What makes the scene unbearable is that every character is certain and no one is right — Orange lies, Joe misreads, and Eddie backs his father. The standoff ends with the plainest threat in the film: 'Joe, if you kill that man, you die next.' Nobody survives the certainty.

Theme

LiesOrange's false story about Blonde sets off the final standoff, even as it hides that Orange is the real informer.
BetrayalJoe defends a loyal friend and then turns on Orange, but the true traitor is standing in the room.

The defence of Blonde: Joe is accusing the wrong person, because he knows him well.

You're making a terrible mistake. I'm not gonna let you make it.

A warning that Joe is about to do something irreversible, and a promise to stop him.

I swear on my mother's eternal soul, it's what happened.

Orange's strongest possible oath that his version of events is true, even though it is not.

The appeal to the crew's own code, made while guns are already being drawn.
