Jimmy Rages Over the New Car, Explained:bulls

The crew is flush with heist money, but Jimmy is terrified of the attention. The surface fight is about a car bought right after the Lufthansa robbery; underneath, it is about survival — 'We got a million bulls out there. Everybody's watching us.' Every big purchase is a breadcrumb for the law.

あらすじ

After the Lufthansa heist, Henry has everyone around him on the payroll — even the family's old babysitter. At home, cocaine is piled up carelessly. On the news, the robbery dominates the coverage. When a crew member shows up in a brand-new car, Jimmy Conway explodes: he told them all to buy nothing until the heat died down.

「Jimmy Rages Over the New Car」を読み解く

What's really going on

The comedy and the menace sit in the same scene. Henry narrates his drug operation like a staffing report — everyone is working for him, even the babysitter — while powder sits out in the open, a detail he glosses over. Then the news anchor calmly describes 'the daring pre dawn raid,' and the tone flips. What Jimmy understands, and the car buyer does not, is that after a heist the danger is not the crime but the spending. 'We got a million bulls out there. Everybody's watching us.' A new car is not a trophy; it is evidence waiting to be noticed, and Jimmy's fury is really fear. His repeated 'Didn't I say...' is a man watching his own rules get ignored.

Theme

MoneyAfter the heist the crew's new wealth becomes the threat: Jimmy spends the scene trying to stop anyone from showing it off.
CorruptionThe mob runs on bribery and silence, so a flashy purchase can undo everything and hand the whole crew to the law.

このチャプターで学べること

  • Showing off money is what gets a crew caught.
  • Jimmy's questions are threats dressed as questions.
  • Frankie's excuses never answer the real charge.
  • A wedding gift is a label, not a defense.

発音のポイント

  • had everybody — Link had and everybody so the d slides onto the next word.
  • got enough — The t in got often drops before enough.
  • got a million — Got a can flap into one sound; stress the first syllable of million.
  • What are you — What are you often blurs into wacha in fast speech.
We got a million bulls out there. Everybody's watching us.

A million cops are watching after the heist, so any flashy spending will draw them straight to the crew.

Didn't I say not to go buy anything for a while?

Jimmy reminds the crew he ordered a spending freeze right after the robbery; buying a car now breaks that rule.

I had everybody working for me. Even our old baby sitter, Lois Byrd.

Henry spread his drug operation to everyone around him — a sign of how far his ego and his risk-taking have grown.

Look at all this powder around here. That could put us away forever.

Cocaine left in the open is a legal time bomb; possession this blatant could send them to prison for life.

このシーンについての質問

Why is Jimmy so furious about the new car?

The Lufthansa heist just happened and the police, FBI, and press are watching the whole crew. Jimmy had ordered everyone to buy nothing until the heat cooled, and a brand-new car is exactly the kind of spending that draws attention.

What does 'bulls' mean in this scene?

It is old mob slang for police officers. Jimmy uses it to say the authorities are everywhere after the robbery, so no one should be flashing money.

Why does Henry say even the old babysitter works for him?

It shows how far Henry's drug operation reached. He recruited friends and ordinary people around him, which raises the risk that someone will talk or get caught.

Why does the powder lying around matter so much?

Henry points out that cocaine left in plain sight could 'put us away forever.' It is not just the dealing that is dangerous; the visible evidence alone could send them to prison for life.

Is the car buyer lying about it being a gift?

He insists the car is under his mother's name and was a wedding gift, trying to dodge Jimmy's rule. Jimmy ignores the excuse — the problem is the spending, not the paperwork.
