Jafar Manipulates the Sultan, Explained:Remember your place
On the surface it's a royal audience: a suitor is rejected, then the court argues about war and succession. Underneath, Jafar is steering. "Remember your place," he is told, and he apologises at once, yet he still gets the Sultan to declare that invading Shirabad is the right thing to do.
あらすじ
At the palace in Agrabah, Prince Anders asks for Jasmine's hand and is turned down flat. Jafar pushes for war with Shirabad, is sharply rebuked with "Remember your place," then recovers and bends the Sultan toward his view. The Sultan refuses Jasmine the throne, saying it has never been done, and Jafar supplies the argument that books are not experience.

What's really going on
Everyone is playing for position. The suitor is dismissed because Jasmine won't be traded like a treaty, but the real contest is happening around the Sultan. Jafar overreaches, hears "Remember your place," apologises at once, and then does exactly what the rebuke was meant to stop, nudging the Sultan into his own war. The succession line is the film's central wound: "My dear, you cannot be a sultan... because it has never been done." Tradition is offered as an argument, and Jafar sharpens it into contempt for learning, insisting that experience cannot be read out of books. By the end he has turned policy and inheritance into the same fight, and the Sultan, tired and unwell, lets him set the terms.

We have the same title, yet are never described the same way.A dry reply from the princess: she and the visiting prince share a rank, but only one of them is ever talked about as a prize.
People left unchecked will revolt.Jafar's case for firm rule: without control, ordinary people will rise up, so harshness is dressed up as necessity.
My dear, you cannot be a sultan...The Sultan's refusal, softened by affection: he is not saying she is unfit, only that the position has never gone to a woman.
Walls and borders unguarded will be attacked.Another argument for vigilance: what is not defended invites attack, used here to make aggression sound like prudence.
What foreign prince could care for our people as I do?Jasmine's objection to marriage as policy: a stranger could never love her people the way someone raised among them would.
このシーンについての質問
Why does Jasmine refuse Prince Anders?
She won't be handed off as a diplomatic prize. He arrives as a suitor and speaks to her like an ornament, so she answers with the same mock courtesy and sends him away.
Why can't Jasmine be sultan?
The Sultan says the law and custom have never allowed it, not that she is incapable. It's an argument from tradition, which is exactly what she is trying to overturn.
Does Jafar actually want a war with Shirabad?
He wants the Sultan dependent on him. The war is a means of gaining influence, and when he is rebuked he simply changes tack and gets the Sultan to reach the conclusion himself.
What does "left unchecked" mean here?
It means left without control. Jafar applies it to people and borders to argue that any slack invites revolt or attack, a line that sounds like common sense but serves his ambition.
