If they're in relationships... the pressure of possible involvement is lifted. That doesn't work either, because then the person you're involved with... can't understand why you need to be friends... with the person you're just friends with. Like it means something is missing from the relationship. Then when you say, "Nothing is missing from the relationship"... the person you're involved with accuses you... of being secretly attracted to the person you're just friends with... which you probably are. Who are we kidding? Which brings us back to the rule before the amendment: Men and women can't be friends. Where does that leave us?

下一章 · 06cushion the blow减轻打击这场戏：讲述妻子提离婚的经过意思是「对某条规则的修正、补充条款」。哈利把「男女做不成朋友」当成旧规则，给自己想出的例外打上 amendment，听着像开会，其实是在狡辩。
grow apart。莎莉说 We've been growing apart，就是两个人慢慢没话聊、越来越远；比直接说 we don't love each other 更委婉。
指「只是朋友、没有恋爱关系」。哈利说 have dinner? Just friends，就是强调这顿饭不带别的意思，暧昧或澄清关系时很常用。
