故事发生在伊利里亚街头：安东尼奥被当成海盗抓走，却还在当众为那个他从 the jaws of death（鬼门关）抢回半条命的年轻人鸣不平，说 In nature, there's no blemish but the mind（天性本无瑕疵，瑕疵只在人心），又说 Virtue is beauty（美德才是美），漂亮的坏胚只是 empty trunks（空壳子）。他叫出 Sebastian 的名字，薇奥拉心中一动：He named Sebastian（他叫了西巴斯辛），于是祈祷 Prove true, imagination（幻想啊，求你成真吧）。另一头，胆小又闹事的安德鲁还在盘算去找人打架。想学深情独白、道德格言和英式咒骂的英文，这些台词很耐听。

the jaws of death。jaws 是「嘴巴、血盆大口」，把死亡想成张开的嘴，形象地表示九死一生、命悬一线。
trunks 在这里是「箱子、空壳」，empty trunks 引申为「绣花枕头、中看不中用」。台词说漂亮的坏人不过是 devil 雕饰过的空壳。
是伊丽莎白时代一种避讳式咒骂，相当于「老天、见鬼」。它由 God's lid 缩略而来，现在只在莎剧里见到。
cowardship。它从 coward 来，指胆小怯懦。台词说那人 for his cowardship ask Fabian，就是「他有多胆小，问费边去」。
