前辈教新人怎么当卧底：要会演，得 naturalistic as hell（自然到骨子里），演得假在这行根本混不下去。关键不是背词，而是抓细节——It's the details that sell your story（正是细节让故事站得住）。于是他一遍遍练那段厕所轶事，把细节 make your own（变成自己的）。想学讲故事、做铺垫的英语，这段话最实用。

老探员在教新人弗雷迪怎么冒充罪犯。他的核心观点是：干这行得会演，An undercover cop's gotta be Marlon Brando（卧底得是马龙·白兰度那种人），而且必须 naturalistic as hell（自然到骨子里），因为演得假在这行就是硬伤。接下来他把一段厕所轶事交给弗雷迪，让他背下来当谈资，还强调 It's the details that sell your story（正是细节让你的故事站得住）：纸巾还是烘干机、有没有门、什么肥皂，每一个细节都要 make your own（变成自己的）。练法也简单，就是一遍遍讲，讲到像真的。后半段弗雷迪开始试讲那套大麻旧事，磕磕巴巴地找感觉。想学怎么讲故事、怎么把细节用起来，这段最实用。

用强调句把 the details 拎出来，一句话点破撒谎的关键。

要强调某物才是关键时用；书面和口语都合适，别用来甩锅。

中性
It's 轻读，重音落在 details 和 story 上。
It's the small examples that win the interviewer over. 正是那些小例子打动了面试官。

一句二选一逼到墙角，把卧底的生存法则说得又狠又实在。

熟人之间把选择说死、逼对方认真时用；正式场合别用 ain't。

口语
if you 连读，ain't 的 t 吞掉，重音在 great 和 bad。

takes place 一句定场景，so 引出要求，把「细节决定可信度」讲成了因果。
sth takes place in ..., so ...
交代故事、事件发生的地点时用；正式叙述也可用，别和 happen 混着重复说。
This scene is set in a men's room. ／ The whole thing goes down in a washroom.

takes place in 连读，so you gotta 弱读带过，details 重读。
The opening takes place in a tiny kitchen, so the props really matter. 开场发生在一间小厨房里，所以道具特别重要。

If some nasty, lowlife, scum-ridden motherfucker, man, sprayed diarrhoea all over one of the bowls. You gotta know every detail there is to know about this commode. So, what you gotta do is take all them details, man, and make them your own. Ohh! And while you're doing that, you gotta remember that this story is about you, and how you perceived the events that went down. The only way to do that, my brother - keep saying it and saying it and saying it and saying it and saying it.

"When I get some, I'll let you know." Then these rinky-dink potheads come by - they're my friends and everything, but still, you know?

naturalistic 是「自然的、不做作的」，常用于谈表演。卧底要装得像个真罪犯，就得 naturalistic as hell，也就是「自然到骨子里」，一点表演痕迹都不能有。
take place 是「发生、举行」，常用来说某件事发生在某地。台词里说这个故事 takes place in a men's room，就是「这个故事发生在男厕所」。
a pain in the ass。pain 是「疼痛」，ass 在这里粗俗地代指「自己」，整句就是「让人烦得要命的麻烦事」。台词里说这事儿成了 a pain in the ass，就是「变成了个麻烦」。
every time 是「每次、每当」，引导时间或条件。它常和一般现在时或过去时连用，比如 every time I bought some weed，就是「每次我买大麻的时候」。
the only way。only 是「唯一的」，way 是「办法、途径」，后面常接 to do something，比如 the only way to do that，就是「做到这件事的唯一办法」。
