不行。它字面是「在黑暗里打一枪」，指没把握的尝试、瞎猜。戏里威尔猜斯凯拉的专业前，先说自己这句是 a shot in the dark，等于先给自己留后路。
thrown out 是被撤销、被驳回。案底上写案子 all overturned，就是威尔靠自辩把这些指控全推翻了，可这次他打了警察，没法再撤。
可以说 show up。戏里楼宇管理处的人说 Willy didn't show up for work today，就是「威利今天没来上班、没露面」，很口语。
