Everything you need before watching
Tom has pulled Nick from the valley into Manhattan, into a cramped apartment he keeps for Myrtle. Catherine is already calling it a party; Chester McKee circles with a camera. Nick tries to leave. Tom will not let him. He puts the night as a choice: sit on the sideline, or play ball. Drinks, gossip, and nerve pills keep the room spinning. Then Myrtle says Daisy's name, and the joke turns into a slap.
