Chapter 4 of 22 · 3'53"
A hall of near-perfect law students is called the crème de la crème, then told to look left and right. "One of the three of you will fail, make no mistake." The praise is a threat: they are not friends but rivals, and the speaker already feels like the one who does not belong.

Paired contrasts evict instinct, then call law school only the start of the fight.
Cambridge law school, first day. Two hundred near-perfect students sit an induction. The Dean calls them the crème de la crème, then tells them to look left and right: one of three will fail, and they are fighting, not friends. The speaker is sure the others can tell they do not belong, and the lecture ends on one line: this is not life, this is law.
The Dean calls them "the crème de la crème." She stops just like a lawyer and tells them to look left. The boy on the left is from a posh school. They nod, he takes in the outfit, and the speaker withers. It is obvious they are not from the same place. The girl on the right smiles and pulls a funny face, and the speaker laughs. Then one of the three will fail. "You are not friends, you are fighting each other." "The game starts now." The speaker cannot look at either of them. Benedict glances over and has already dismissed the speaker. The lecture says there is no real truth, only legal truth. Mia drops out for acting school and, before she goes, becomes a best friend for life. Instincts can be wrong. "This, this is not life, this is law."
A1–C2 is the CEFR scale. Cards above the level you pick fade, and playback will not auto-pause on them.

“'Yes. One of the three of you will fail, make no mistake.”
The yes and the final tag turn a one-in-three statistic into something nobody can dodge.
Formal
“'You are not friends, you are fighting each other.”
It deletes friends and puts a fight in that place, with no polite middle left.
Formal
“'There is no real truth, only legal truth.”
Saying truth twice, and swapping real for legal, rewrites what counts before the line ends.

“Don't trust what you think you know. This, this is not life, this is law.”
It takes back certainty, then renames the whole induction as law instead of life.

'Look back and hear this. One of the three of you will not make it. 'Yes. One of the three of you will fail, make no mistake. 'You are all in competition with each other. 'You are not friends, you are fighting each other. 'The game starts now.'
'Never assume anyone is telling the truth, even yourself. 'There is no real truth, only legal truth. 'Don't trust your gut instinct, trust your legal instinct. 'You will get it wrong if you think you know what will happen. 'You are the best of the best, 'prepare for the fight of your life because law school is just the beginning.'
Up next · 05manoeuvred his way aroundThe scene: Everyone Is Watching at the PartyThe Dean has just called them the crème de la crème and said they will change the country. She stops "just like a lawyer" and tells them to look at the person on the left, then the right. One of the three will not make it. "You are not friends, you are fighting each other." "The game starts now."
The boy is confident and from a posh school, and he already knows he will be the one to change the country. They nod at each other, he takes in the outfit, and the speaker withers. The next line says it is obvious the speaker is not from where he is from.
Not as a set. Benedict gets through, which the speaker predicted. The speaker also thought the girl on the right would never talk to them again. She is named Mia, drops out for acting school, and before she goes becomes a best friend for life. The speaker then says instincts can be wrong.
The Dean says never assume anyone is telling the truth, even yourself. "There is no real truth, only legal truth." Do not trust gut instinct. Trust legal instinct. The speaker closes on the same split: this is not life, this is law.
