in bad taste。taste 指品味，in bad taste 就是说言行不得体、让人不舒服。克拉克觉得莱托勒夫妇讥讽的口气 in bad taste，才当面提出抗议。
belittle 是及物动词，意为「贬低、看轻」。片里说 Let those who wish to belittle their country's achievements do so in private（想贬低国家成就就私下说去），语气相当重。
意思是「以检验合格为准」。收货的人说 we'll take the rest, subject to inspection，就是其余的都收下，但要先检查合格——这是商务场景里常见的条件说法。
I take it 表示「我想、我猜」，用来确认自己根据情况做出的推测，比 I think 更客气。克拉克问 You're joining her at Liverpool, I take it? 就是「我想您是在利物浦登船吧」。
