秋天第一场公寓派对，屋里全是人，有人挨个介绍。一位被叫做 goddess of the scene（圈子里人人追捧的人），同一句后半就是谁都想得到她；另一个看着像书呆，却是 hard-core（硬核、玩真的）。别人外形和你想的不一样时，这两句比空夸更准。

公寓里秋天第一场派对开了，有人在屋里挨个认人。一位被称作 goddess of the scene（圈子里人人追捧的人），同一句后半是 Everybody really wants her，谁都想得到她。旁边一个看着像书呆的人，被说成 hard-core（硬核、玩真的），外形和圈子地位完全对不上。有人打招呼 how's it rollin'（随口问最近顺不顺），对方回 Rolling fine。还有人爱买东西 show it off（拿出来给人炫耀），激光影碟、水床和五千块的机器都要当场演示给人看。夸圈子里的红人、拆穿书呆外形、随口问近况、说人爱显摆，朋友聚会时都能用上。

It was a character flaw, sure, but we all have those. This part didn't concern me. The main problem with Mark... was that he was intimidating, and he had a tendency to snap. He was always afraid of getting ripped off... yet at the same time, he ripped things off without shame or guilt. Chaos in man, although hopeful... could also be, you know, a little tiresome.
