blab。指把不该说的秘密随口说出去。亨伯特说 you'll blab，就是「你会到处乱讲」，所以他不肯把莫娜的事告诉他。
novel 作名词是「小说」，作形容词是「新奇的、新颖的」。亨伯特说 That's a novel subject，表面夸题材新鲜，其实有点端着，等于「这题材倒是新鲜」。
idiosyncrasy，复数 idiosyncrasies。指个人特有、有点古怪的小习惯。亨伯特说写诗写在日记本里是 one of my little idiosyncrasies，就是「我的一点小怪癖」。
object to。object 在这里读重音在后，to 后面接名词或动名词。亨伯特问 What do you object to，就是「你嫌它哪儿不好」，客气地追问对方反对什么。
