桑迪问杰弗里昨晚看见了什么，他一句 It's a strange world, Sandy.（这世界真奇怪）把人拉进那个案子：多萝西的丈夫和儿子被人绑走，弗兰克逼她替他做事。她讲起自己的梦——all of a sudden（忽然间）成千上万只知更鸟飞来，把爱的光带回黑暗的世界。写梦、写心境，直接用这两句。

I had a dream. In fact, it was the night I met you. In the dream, there was our world, and the world was dark because there weren't any robins. And the robins represented love. And for the longest time there was just this darkness. And all of a sudden thousands of robins were set free. And they flew down and brought this blinding light of love. And it seemed like that love would be the only thing that would make any difference, and it did. So I guess it means... ...there is trouble till the robins come.

下一章 · 04stake out蹲点监视这场戏：对着挂钟汇报案情就是「忽然间」。它比 suddenly 更有画面感，常放在句首，讲事情突然发生，比如梦里成千上万只知更鸟一下全飞了出来。
可以说 as a warning for，比如 as a warning for her to stay alive，就是把割耳朵当作警告，逼她别寻死、活下来。
字面是「这世界真奇怪，桑迪」。杰弗里查完案子后用它感慨：世上竟有弗兰克这种人、这种恶，语气是无奈，而不是害怕。
get into trouble，也可以说 get into a lot of trouble，指因为自己的行为招来麻烦。桑迪用它警告杰弗里别一个人查下去。
她父亲是警探，按规矩这案子该交给警方。杰弗里却说自己打听消息不合法、没法证明，开口就等于承认自己闯了祸。
