Ally Asks Jack to Come With Her, Explained:come with me

Rez doesn't sugarcoat it: "We're not exactly friends here," he says, and warns Jack that his drinking nearly destroyed Ally's career. Then Ally arrives with the opposite message. She's canceling the tour to stay with him and asks him to sing "Shallow" by her side. One scene, two verdicts on whether Jack deserves her.

あらすじ

Back from rehab, Jack goes to Ally's place and finds Rez waiting. Rez tells him bluntly that he isn't a friend, that he nearly derailed Ally's career, and that she'd look better off without him. When Ally comes home, she says she's canceling the rest of her tour to spend the summer with Jack, and invites him to join her onstage again.

「Ally Asks Jack to Come With Her」を読み解く

What's really going on

This is the whole movie arguing with itself in one room. Rez speaks for the business: Jack is a liability, "We're not exactly friends here," and everyone knows it's only a matter of time before Ally's career pushes her husband aside. Ally speaks for love: she cancels the tour without hesitating and asks Jack to come with her, which is both devotion and a quiet rescue. Jack barely argues back; he just says yes. The scene shows how the two people around him are pulling in opposite directions, and how the choice between them is really a choice about who Ally is going to become.

Theme

MarriageRez frames Jack as a weight on Ally's career while Ally chooses to stay married to him anyway.
DutyRez says staying married makes Ally look like a joke; she answers by cancelling her tour to protect Jack.

We're gonna cancel the rest of the tour, and I'm just gonna be here all summer.

Ally's announcement that she chose Jack over her tour. She presents it as happy news, which is exactly what makes it troubling.

Let's be honest, we both know it's only a matter of time before that's pushed aside again for the real thing.

Rez's prediction: Jack's needs will eventually be set aside when Ally's career calls, and he means it as a warning, not a comfort.

You almost single-handedly derailed her whole career.

Rez's accusation that Jack's drinking and public collapse nearly wrecked everything Ally built, blaming Jack alone for the damage.

We're not exactly friends here.

Rez drawing the line before he says anything hard. It tells Jack he won't get the polite version, only the truth as the business sees it.
