夜里，莫尔太太误入清真寺，阿齐兹起初怪她 You have no right here.（您不该进来），得知她脱了鞋便道歉。两人聊起来，发现都失去了伴侣：Then we are in the same box.（那我们同病相怜。）他还夸她 You have the most kind face of any English lady I have met.（您是我见过最和善的英国太太。）想学误会到交心的英文，这段很温柔。

「不三不四的人」。阿齐兹提醒她 there are bad characters about，就是这一带有坏人，晚上不该一个人走，用词比 bad people 更书面。
「变本加厉地、十足地」。一句 is not this the same box with a vengeance，就是那我们岂不是更同病相怜，比前面那句再加一层。
前面刚说河里有鳄鱼、会漂来尸首，莫尔太太说可怕，阿齐兹偏说 what a wonderful river，表面赞美，其实带着印度式把生死都看进去的意味。
