Hartson Asks About Dissecting, Explained

The conspirators realize they want the same thing — one side to kill the duo, the other to dissect them — so they join forces: "We're all on the same team." Then Hartson admits he's curious about the dissection, and the eager answer is a phone tutorial that begins with a very hands-on first step.

Hartson Asks About Dissecting, explained

What happens

Two groups agree their goals align — one wants the duo dead, the other wants them dissected — so they team up. Hartson sheepishly asks to learn about dissecting, and instead of mocking him, a colleague pulls out phone photos and begins a step-by-step tutorial. Elsewhere, Beavis and Butt-Head get into a car and start a chaotic chase.

What's really going on

The scene's joke is bureaucratic evil treated as a boring office matter. Two factions that seemed opposed discover they want the same outcome — one to kill the boys, one to dissect them — and settle it with a shrug: "We're all on the same team." The deadpan is sharpened when Hartson, apparently a nervous underling, admits he's curious about the dissection and expects to be dismissed, only to get an enthusiastic lesson instead. The tutorial's opening line, 'First, you need to locate the anus,' lands as pure anti-climax: a sinister plan reduced to a how-to. Then the film cuts to the actual subjects of all this plotting, who are fumbling with a stolen car and inventing absurd theories about who is following them. The gap between the villains' grand conspiracy and the idiots' oblivious joyride is the whole point.

Key lines & what they mean

“We're all on the same team.”
Two opposing groups drop their argument and agree they both want the duo dealt with, one way or another.
“But then we realized, it doesn't matter.”
The squabble over whether the boys are aliens or astronauts is abandoned as pointless.
“No, you know what, forget it, it's probably way too complicated for someone like me to understand.”
Hartson pretends his curiosity is too stupid to matter, fishing for the lesson anyway.
“Oh, no, no, no, on the contrary, this will just take a minute.”
The colleague refuses the self-deprecation and insists the explanation will be quick and easy.
“First, you need to locate the anus.”
The dissection lesson opens with the most basic, blunt instruction imaginable.
“You really brought your A-game today, Beavis.”
Butt-Head praises Beavis for a run of small, lucky decisions during their getaway.
“You know how you run out of milk?”
One of them compares the car chase to the everyday panic of running out of milk.

Theme

  • Absurdity — A sinister dissection plot is explained as a casual phone tutorial, while the targets happily steal a car.
  • Dark humor — Villains calmly agree to kill and dissect the duo, treating murder like a boring staff meeting.

Takeaways

What you walk away with
  1. On a roll means a lucky streak, not one win.
  2. We're all on the same team is pure irony here.
  3. On the contrary politely overrules the other person.
  4. Kick ass is a vulgar way to cheer.

Questions, then the lines
Why do the two groups suddenly cooperate?

They realize their goals overlap: one faction wants the duo killed, the other wants them dissected. Rather than fight over it, they agree they're 'all on the same team.'

Who was going to teach the dissection?

A colleague with pictures on his phone offers a quick tutorial, after Hartson admits he's curious. He brushes off Hartson's self-deprecation and begins step by step.

Are Beavis and Butt-Head aware they're being hunted?

No. They're busy stealing a car, driving backwards, and guessing who's following them, throwing out jokes about Venezuelans, Al-Qaeda, and Venusians.

Why does Beavis want to save Serena?

They spot Serena in a van with Hartson and assume Hartson is going to 'score' with her, so they decide to rescue her — while also arguing over who gets to score first.
