教室里老师念完报告，夸洛夫格伦有艺术天赋，还翻出他报告的脚注当众朗读。一句 for the record（正式说明一下）先给艺术下定义，又用 nothing personal（不是针对你）给赌局收尾。想学怎么在正式场合开口、怎么把话说得漂亮又不伤人，这几句都得听清。

少管所的教室里，老师拿着批改好的报告走进来，用一句 happy to tell you（很高兴告诉你）宣布全班都通过了，还说班上有位隐藏的艺术家。接着他先给艺术下定义，用 for the record（正式说明一下）强调这是自己的立场，再当众朗读洛夫格伦报告脚注里的剪报——死者正是图伊蒂，教室瞬间炸开。混乱中奥布莱恩问起自己的赔率，佩雷蒂报完数，又补一句 nothing personal（不是针对你）。想学正式场合怎么开口、怎么把话说得客气又疏离，这场戏的几句英文很实用。

把生死写成赌盘，一句旁观的话点出环境的残酷。

转述别人拿你的事下注、看热闹时用；语气带点嘲讽。

下一章 · 09ready to blow一触即发这场戏：被叫错名字当场翻脸意思是「大热门、最被看好的人」，来自赛马和下注。赌局里押谁赢面最大，就说谁是 odds-on favorite。
nothing personal。把不好听的话说完，再补这一句，表示对事不对人，常见于玩笑或拒绝的场合。
想强调某句话是正式表态、要别人记住时用。开会、谈判、公开说明都能用，语气比普通的 I think 更郑重。
多半是。「没想到你有这本事」的意思，通常带点惊讶和欣赏；也可以拿来阴阳怪气，看语气。
多数时候是正式报喜，像宣布好消息、公布结果。若语气一沉，也可能被用来反讽，但正常语境里就是「很高兴告诉你」。
