下一章 · 16get in the way碍事这场戏：船上得知被送走「说得通、合乎逻辑」。否定形式 not make sense 就是「说不通、没道理」。剧里说 I'm not making much sense，是承认自己说话乱、没头没尾。
make a fool of myself，字面是「把我自己弄成傻瓜」。比如 I don't want to make a fool of myself.（我不想出丑）。也可以说 make a complete fool of myself，程度更重。
be in love with someone，强调正爱着、恋着。比如 I've been in love with him all my life.（我爱了他一辈子）。它和 love 不同，in love with 更偏恋爱的那种爱。
「多得吓人、非常多」。awful 在这里不是「糟糕」，而是加强语气，相当于「不得了的多」。比如 an awful lot of tomato juice 就是番茄汁多得离谱。
指「家里那点舒适便利」——热饭、炉子、沙发这些让人安心的小东西。剧里说办公室锅碗炉子俱全，all the comforts of home，是拿办公室打趣。
「解释、说明原因」。比如 That may account for a lot of things.（这大概能解释不少事）。后面接现象或结果，说明它为什么会发生。
