inside the closet
Who's the guy in the closet?The Last Boy Scout · 1991 — 第 2 / 20 章 · 3'09" · B2
Joe comes home a day early and reads the apartment like a crime scene: steam in the bathroom, the toilet seat up. "You can stop me any time by telling the truth," he tells the man behind the closet door, counting to three with a gun. Infidelity turns into a cold, almost funny interrogation.
Joe Hallenbeck gets home a day early and finds the signs of another man: a steamy bathroom, dry hair, the toilet seat up. Instead of opening the closet, he counts to three and warns the man inside that he can stop the countdown any time by telling the truth. Sarah finally admits she has been with Mike, Joe's own friend.

Five hundred bucks is 500 bucks, Mike. The scene is a black-comedy interrogation built out of ordinary details. Joe does not raise his voice or break down; he becomes a detective in his own apartment, turning steam, dry hair and a raised toilet seat into evidence. "You can stop me any time by telling the truth," he says, and the line is both a threat and a test of the man hiding behind the door. The cruelty of the scene is that Joe stays entirely calm while the people around him unravel, and that calm is funnier and sadder than shouting would be. When the lover turns out to be Mike, his friend, the betrayal lands twice: a marriage and a friendship break in the same minute. Joe answers with a joke instead of a bullet, which tells you exactly who he is.

I'd say roughly till you started banging my wife. The friendship's expiration date, delivered as a punchline: it ended the moment the affair began.

Joe is giving a final warning. He counts to three and threatens to shoot through the closet door, telling the man inside that telling the truth will stop him.
It is Mike Matthews, who turns out to be both the man involved with Sarah and an old friend of Joe's. That double betrayal is the point of the scene.
No. He keeps the gun out as a threat and uses jokes instead of bullets, which is what makes the scene dark comedy rather than violence.
